Water problem in Onahio-Carrefour: MP Konaté called in for help.
The residents of Onahio-Carrefour, a town in the sub-prefecture of Galébré, in the department of Gagnoa, received MP Moussa Konaté this Saturday.
During discussions with the elected official, the water problem was raised acutely.
“We are appealing to MP Konaté to help us get drinking water in this village. We need a borehole.”
"The wells that are here exist in name only. We are forced to fetch water far from here, over long distances. And this is tiring and makes us sick," said Ballo Rokia, the women's spokesperson.
It is with a heavy heart that she informs the visitor that some women have had to leave their homes because they could no longer bear this distressing situation.
"Mr. Member of Parliament, we draw your attention to the issue of drinking water which remains a major concern for us brave mothers of Onahio-Carrefour.
"The difficulties in supplying drinking water make daily life difficult for the population, especially for women and children. Access to quality drinking water is an essential necessity for the health, hygiene and well-being of our community," she argued.
“That is why we humbly request your support so that concrete and lasting solutions can be found,” the women’s spokesperson addressed the member of parliament. The urgency of the problem is such that the elected official expressed his sympathy for the suffering of these communities before reassuring them.
“We have taken good note. As elected officials, it is our responsibility to pass on the grievances to the decision-makers so that lasting solutions can be found,” the honorable member promised.
The role of the MP, he said, is to lobby to resolve situations like this one. "I ask you to be patient, I will approach those in power to bring you development," the speaker insisted.
A few hours earlier, he had been in Koffi-Yaokro. There, he spoke with the local population about the various problems hindering local development. These problems revolve around the resurfacing of village roads, the empowerment of women and youth, rural electricity, water, schools, and health centers.
“We will tackle these problems and resolve them quickly so that everyone can live in good conditions, regardless of where they are,” said Moussa Konaté.
