Gagnoa Marathon: When sport joins with culture
During a press conference held last Friday at the regional sports directorate, it was announced that the Gagnoa (Mara-Gôh) marathon will be associated with culture through the talking drum.
The announcement was made by Sibai Marius , the event's general commissioner. He stated that sport and culture are two levers for social cohesion, heritage promotion, and local development.
"By bringing them together in the same event, we wish to offer Gagnoa a unique event, full of meaning and identity," said the Commissioner General, adding that the Mara-Gôh will go beyond a simple sporting competition to become a celebration of endurance, self-improvement, brotherhood and living together.
The innovation of this marathon undoubtedly lies in its cultural aspect.
According to Sibai Marius , the race will be accompanied by drums to give the athletes strength and encourage them to persevere.
"The drumbeats will become the heartbeat of our marathon," Marius believes. He points out that sport combined with culture is a link between physical exertion and cultural expression.
"Above all, it's an invitation to run to the rhythm of our identity, to make Gagnoa shine and to show that our heritage can be a formidable engine of attractiveness," said the general commissioner of Mara-Gôh.
The objectives of this activity are diverse. They include promoting sport, enhancing culture through talking drums, attracting tourists, and making the cheese-making town an economic hub.
“We are convinced that this initiative will contribute to the prestige of our city and that, over the years, it can become an essential event on the sporting and cultural calendar,” hopes Sibai Marius .
This is an opportunity for him to invite all populations to mobilize around this event to make it a complete success.
