The NGO "Je reverdis mon village" is tackling desertification.
Gouéda, a village in the sub-prefecture of Diégonéfla, in the department of Oumé, served as the setting for the launch of the 2nd edition of the day of the tree, reforestation and the fight against food insecurity.
It was this Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the multipurpose hall in the presence of administrative and customary authorities and a population strongly mobilized for this purpose.
Dogad Dogoui, president of the NGO " Je reverdis mon village " (I am re-greening my village), immediately explained the project he is leading.
The head of the AIP office in Gagnoa notes with regret that desertification is gaining ground in the face of climate change.
Therefore, he said, the goal of his NGO is to ensure that within five years, all villages in the Oumé department will have shade. With the support of the forestry agents, 500 teak seedlings have been planted in various locations throughout the village .
The same will be true in the coming days in the villages of Bronda and Tiégba.
“We call on the people to take care of these trees by not letting them die. It is nice to have trees in a village. By 2032, all villages must be re-greened,” the journalist promised.
He believes that the return of the forest is a guarantee of food security.
“Oumé is a major cocoa and food production area. We have observed that more and more fertile land is disappearing because of the drought. We must therefore plant trees to combat food insecurity,” he added.
Ms. Amani Grâce, representing the high patron of the ceremony, Minister Dogo Belmonde, emphasized the importance of the tree in the life of the community.
"I invite the people and each of us to become a true ambassador for reforestation and the protection of our environment.
"May every tree planted today be a symbol of our collective commitment to a green future," said Amanie Grâce in an exhortation.
For his part, the sub-prefect of Diégonéfla welcomed the initiative of the NGO which is participating in the restoration of the Ivorian forest cover.
“Planting a tree is not just a symbolic gesture. It is a civic act that contributes to the preservation of our environment, the protection of water resources, the fight against global warming and the improvement of the living conditions of present and future generations,” Koman Yao Gustave listed the benefits of reforestation.
Unable to attend, Yssouf Diabaté, the ceremony's sponsor and deputy-mayor of Gagnoa, was represented by Boni Valentin, his 2nd deputy.
